Plumber and Pipefitter UA Local 442 - HTI
MODESTO, CA - The Plumbers and Pipefitters UA Local 442, Hydrogen Technologies Incorporated, and Factory Sales Engineering demonstrated the world's first hydrogen thermal steam boiler capable of generating clean, green energy. The unit was operated for a group of trade professionals, union leaders, energy specialists, and state and local government officials attending the annual State Pipe Trades Apprenticeship Contest.
Some of the attendees enjoyed blowing the steam whistle attached to the Hydrogen Boiler. The howl of the whistle was reminiscent of an old mining train chugging through the Sierra Nevada Mountains. In 1849 those steam whistles represented a new era of opportunity and prosperity for the Central Valley of California. Today, this same sound may signal a new era of opportunity and prosperity for the region.
"We believed this was the most appropriate venue to showcase our latest boiler technology," said Bill Taylor, Business Manager at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 442. "Some of the most experienced and visionary people in the industry are gathered here today." HTI's patented energy process completely changes the economics for the renewable providers here in the Central Valley of California. Augmenting existing wind and solar facilities with the hydrogen boiler makes them a base-load power sources capable of producing power 24/7/365. Shaving some of their excess capacity to create and store hydrogen, then burning the hydrogen in the boiler, allows the solar producers a way of making energy when the sun is not shining, and the wind producers a way of making energy when the wind is not blowing.
Bob Jennings, Business Manager of UA Local 246 in Fresno and District Council President added, "We are excited to partner with HTI on this innovative energy process because we see a huge opportunity to convert older power plants to a more modern, clean, and pollution-free way of producing steam and energy."
For use in their Advanced Technologies Training Center, the "Fitters" (as this Union Associates division is commonly known) chose HTI's Dynamic Combustion Chamber "DCC" because the unit operates like normal boilers, but instead of burning dirty coal or natural gas, the DCC burns completely clean Hydrogen and Oxygen. Because the burn happens within a vacuum, there are no greenhouse gases, smokestacks, or harmful bi-products. Using the DCC, the Union plans to train their apprenticeship on the most advanced and sophisticated technology available.
HTI contributed their patented technology, services, expertise, and maintenance to make the deployment a success. "We strongly believe the Union offers the reach and the expertise necessary to help us find the best applications for our technology," said Ed Stockton, President/CEO of Hydrogen Technologies Inc. "Partnering with the UA means rapid expansion of our load-shaving solutions and access to the most professionally managed and constructed projects on the planet. We're very excited about the partnership with the UA."
The boiler was fabricated by Factory Sales Engineering "FSE", a leading manufacturer of boilers with over 72 years of experience and a focus on Renewable Energy. "We're very proud to be a part of this exciting innovation" said Kirby Burke of FSE. "Our boiler systems have the quality and durability required for industrial applications such as the DCC, and we have the manufacturing capacity and technical expertise necessary to succeed in this new market."
Indeed the combination of the UA, HTI, and FSE provides an end-to-end, hydrogen-based clean energy solution including the technology, process, manufacturing, and construction, as well as the ongoing service and maintenance. As the sound of the steam whistle echoes across this industrial complex, the familiar buzz of opportunity in California is starting anew. This time, however, the rush is not for gold or even silicon. The new rush is STEAM!
